Scary dog chase

Our English Setter, Misty, got out of the back yard yesterday. For some reason known only to her, she flew over to I-24 (about two miles away) and was almost miraclously corralled by a couple who lived about three blocks from us. I suppose that it is only fitting that on a Memorial Day our dog was rescued by a military family (Fort Campbell is about eight miles from our house).

Still learning HTML

Am hoping to put up some accounting links soon, but I have had problems understanding the underlying code.

Explanation of name

First of all, an apology to readers who have suffered or had loved ones suffer through tick-borne illnesses, such as Lyme disease or Rocky Mountain spotted fever. The name comes from a common term in accounting firms, particularly those in auditing, which use the phrase "tick mark" to describe a standardized symbol indicating that a particular procedure, such as "footing" (adding a string of numbers) or "vouching" (looking up and in some cases examining a document) has been completed.

Opening statement

My name is Dan Meyer and this blog is intended to concentrate primarily on accounting and related topics (taxation and personal finance to name two). Nevertheless, there will be forays into other topics as well.

I teach at Austin Peay State University and am married to the former Pamela Sharp, who is studying to take the Tennessee Bar soon. We have two dogs, Treasure and Misty, and are fortunate enough to have all of our parents as well as five siblings still alive.

Hopefully, the blog will mature and provide a place for news and information about developments in accounting and a place where readers can link to other accounting blogs and web sites. At the same time, I am aware that many blogs start with great intentions only to have work demands, life changes or even changes in personal interests extinguish the blog.

My blog is worth $7,903.56.
